The Boy ™ now has Tear Ducts!

Today, The Boy ™ went in for surgery to see what could be done to reduce the quantity and severity of eye infections caused by his being born without a complete drainage duct in one of his eyes.  Alas, I gave him said defect, as I have the same problem, except none of my infections ever put me in the hospital.

After 2 hours of surgery, we were told by the doctor that they found his duct ended at the nose - it never formed a path through the bone.  So they made one, and he now has a ultra-small silicone tube as a stint for scar-tissue to form around and create a path for drainage.  Essentially, they have made a duct.  Time will tell if it works, but all indications are that at a minimum, the mega infections should be no more.

Of course, he looks like he got socked in the eye.  I’m trying to teach him to tell people “You should see the other guy…” .  His spirits are VERY high, and his demeaner is inspiring.  Hopefully, he will no longer need to devote such strength to this aspect of his life.

If yesterday was any indication, he’ll be just fine.

Let me set the scene: We had him sleep on the fold-out couch downstairs (The master is downstairs, all other bedrooms are upstairs) so we could keep an eye on him. We had stripped the bed tofold it back up because he was going in his bed that night. I noticed him gathering all the sheets and pillows together, and I watched silently. I pushed everything to the foot of our LazEBoy, climbed up the chair, and before I could stop him, leapt head-first into the pile. With 4 stitches in the corner of his eye/nose junction.

    He’s no worse for wear…
