here’s a trick I use. If you don’t already have it, get firefox, then add the EditCSS extension. That’ll let you change the CSS and immediately observe the changes to your blog.
I briefly tried the EditCSS last night, but found that all the color codes were beyond my abilities to decipher – What color is d7e2251? That kind of stuff. Likewise, I would fool around with the codes, and nothing would happen…
Also, if you want to continue using this theme, it’s based off of Kubrick. Owen Winkler wrote a flippin’ sweet tool called Kubrickr that will take any image and make it Kubrick-friendly, so you could get the borders slapped on your header image no problem.

you may also want to try the colorzilla extension.

And I’ll add that it took me a long time to tinker enough to feel comfortable with the css and php.
